DOCY Update
DOCY officially has over 100 active youth enrolled! We have made over 200 referrals to 23 different organizations to provide services that aim to eliminate the various barriers our youth and their families face.
We have a new (to us) Outreach Specialist! Meet Bobby, he comes to the Dutchtown Opportunity Coalition for Youth from our Dutchtown Cure Violence Team, and with him brings a strong passion for youth engagement and mentorship. Originally from Chicago, Bobby has called Dutchtown home for over seven years and created strong relationships in the neighborhood. We are so grateful to have him on our team.
CEO Sal Martinez Appointed to CMT Board of Directors
Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT), the region’s premiere transit advocacy organization, has named Employment Connection CEO Sal Martinez as the newest member of its Board of Directors. Martinez was elected during CMT’s 39th Annual Meeting, held September 15th at the Marriott Grand Hotel in Downtown St. Louis, and he will serve a three-year term.
Violence Prevention Program
Our Violence Prevention Team in Peabody Darst Webbe/LaSalle Park is continuing their hard work at reducing crime in their assigned neighborhoods. We are excited to report that zero homicides via firearms have occurred in either neighborhood so far in 2023!
The team has also been very engaged in community activities by participating in the Big Reveal event celebrating the incoming $100 Million+ redevelopment of the Clinton Peabody public housing development and by co-sponsoring a recent Bingo fundraising event hosted by the LaSalle Park Neighborhood Association.
School Supplies for Clients
Team EC was busy during back-to-school season collecting backpacks for our clients' families!
Our Violence Prevention Teams were also out in their neighborhoods holding back-to-school celebrations and giveaways in Wells-Goodfellow/Hamilton Heights, Dutchtown, and Peabody Darst Webbe/LaSalle Park. Here's to a happy, healthy, and successful school year!
Edward Jones + United Way Business Attire Drive
Edward Jones staff donated over 500 articles of high-end business attire that will be distributed to our clients. Young Friends of EC board member Chris Bourdoures was also instrumental in the collection of the clothing as a representative of Great Southern Bank, a long-time EC sponsor.
