World of Work

Our World of Work job readiness training program is off to an amazing start in 2024! As of February 29th, 145 clients have already graduated from the program. With new skills and preparation, these clients are ready to apply for jobs, go to interviews, and start on the path to a new career! We'll be there to help them along the way with job leads, transportation assistance, and other wraparound services to help them overcome barriers to self-sufficiency.

New Partnership with Almost Home

Starting this April, we will host World of Work sessions at Almost Home's headquarters in the Gate District. Almost Home's mission to empower young moms to become self-sufficient and create a better future for themselves and their children makes our partnership a fantastic fit. This new partnership was facilitated by former EC staff member Ravi Rao (pictured far left), who now assists Almost Home and other agencies with their development needs.

WIOA Youth Enrollment Fair

Learn about employment, training, and education opportunities for youth ages 14–24 at our WIOA Enrollment Fair on March 19th. Meet employers and training partners at the Crossings at Northwest Plaza Job Center and get on the path to a bright future!

Boeing Volunteer Event

Team EC is so appreciative of the wonderful support that The Boeing Company has provided for our agency and our clients. In addition to providing significant financial support, which has allowed us to assist our clients who live in the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County, and East St. Louis, they also allowed several employees to volunteer and assist us with organizing our client market and clothing closet this week.

We truly appreciate The Boeing Company and owe a special thanks to Monique Bynum, Community Investor/Education Relations, and Chris Bray, Senior Manager, Boeing Global Engagement, for making us and our clients feel so special!

DOCY Update

Our Dutchtown Opportunity Coalition for Youth program will present the third installment of our Finding Your Future workshop series to help young people prepare for life after high school. On Wednesday, March 20th, we'll be joined by organizations including the Missouri Department of Conservation, Grabber School of Hair Design, and Associated General Contractors of Missouri to discuss career paths in their respective trades.

DOCY has another fun event lined up at Thomas Dun Learning Center on Friday, March 8th. Young people are invited to a video game tournament at Thomas Dunn Learning Center featuring favorite head-to-head fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter! We'll have plenty of snacks and prizes for anyone who wants to compete or cheer on the players.

Green Jobs Update

We are in the midst of planning for our next Green Jobs cohort to start this April. This PAID training program is currently sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Nature Conservancy. If you are interested in pursuing a career in this exciting field, please contact us at (314) 333-5622 or via email at martinezs@employmentstl.org for more information.

University Crossing Update

The development team of Bywater Development Group and EC is busy with pre-development activities that will lead to the construction of the University Crossing development in unincorporated St. Louis County. This transportation-oriented development (TOD) will create an intersection of quality, mixed-income housing (60 newly constructed units), public transportation provided by Bi-State Development, and access to employment opportunities that will be enhanced by EC, as we will launch a new satellite office within the development to serve tenants and the community-at-large. The total development cost for this project will exceed $18 million dollars’ worth of new public and private investment in this community

Special thanks to State Senator Brian Williams, State Rep. Kevin Windham, County Executive Sam Page, Councilwoman Rita Days, University of Missouri-St. Louis, Bi-State Development, Citizens for Modern Transit, MHDC, St. Louis County Office of Community Development and many additional stakeholders for their support of this exciting project!

EC Celebrates Black History Month

Our Cheer Team put together a great series of events for our staff to enjoy Black History Month. In addition to hosting daily trivia contests with prizes for winners and decorating our headquarters with symbols of Black History, we also celebrated by having a special luncheon to spend time together.
