Garden Dedication for Dolly

We love you Dolly and Calvin and are always happy to have you back to see us!

Green Jobs Update

We are excited to report that Christopher “Brother El” Jones (former manager of our Cure Violence site in Dutchtown) has been appointed to the position of Manager of Green Jobs. This new program, which is supported by the Missouri Department of Conservation and The Nature Conservancy, will develop and implement a curriculum that will train our clients for the many exciting employment opportunities in this industry.

DOCY Update

The Dutchtown Opportunity Coalition for Youth is out in full force as young people in Dutchtown, Gravois Park, and Mount Pleasant prepare to head back to school. Along with members of the Dutchtown Violence Prevention Team, DOCY was at Marquette Community Day to tell hundreds of neighborhood youths and parents about programs we and our partners offer.

Violence Prevention Programs

Our Violence Prevention Teams have been out in the neighborhoods working to mediate conflicts and direct at-risk people away from cycles of violence and towards a brighter future!

Together with DOCY, the Dutchtown Team is hosting a back-to-school supplies giveaway for high school students on August 18th. The Dutchtown site hosted a World of Work job readiness training this week.

Up north in the Wells-Goodfellow and Hamilton Heights neighborhoods, the Violence Prevention Team will also be giving out school supplies and snacks at the Hillvale Apartments on August 26th. They’re also hosting World of Work classes next week.

And in Peabody Darst Webbe and LaSalle Park, kids can come by the Al Chappelle Community Center for free snow cones on August 25th and free school supplies and 26th. The team is also hosting World of Work training sessions on August 29th and 30th.

Transit Stop Transformation in East St. Louis

Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT), AARP in St. Louis, St. Clair County Transit District, and Metro Transit, in partnership with Bywater Development Group and Employment Connection, unveiled the “Transit Stop Transformation Project” at the 5th & Missouri Transit Center located at 150 N. 6th Street in East St. Louis, Ill. Key representatives of the project and elected officials made formal remarks, cut the ribbon, and invited those in attendance to explore the new, revitalized space.

The opening comes after a months-long process of getting input from transit riders, area residents, elected officials, and stakeholders through a series of design workshops, surveys, and community events, executing their vision, and completing construction. Employment Connection is grateful for the opportunity to be involved!
