Fall Employment Fair

Employment Connection's annual Fall Fest Employment and Resource Fair returns on Thursday, November 21st at our Market Street headquarters. Employers offer on-site interviews and on-the-spot hiring, and clients can learn about our programs and access food, household necessities, and professional attire from our Client Marketplace.

We still have spots available for employers who would like to participate. Contact Karla Humphrey, Manager of Career Services, at (314) 333-5610 to learn more.

U.S. Bancorp Equity Summit

Employment Connection CEO Sal Martinez participated in a panel discussion at the 7th Annual U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance Equity Summit to talk about the partnerships that have catalyzed positive change in communities. The panel featured Torrance Moore and Miranda Walker of Impact Finance, Abdul-Kaba Abdullah of Park Central Development, and Mark Fryer of the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center and was introduced by EC board member Impact Finance fund manager Kendra Moore. We were honored to be a part of this important discussion!

Green Jobs Update

Our Fall 2024 Green Jobs cohort was busy in October! The team got hands-on with projects at St. Louis Community College–Forest Park, Bell Community Garden in Grand Center, and Marquette Park in Dutchtown while also completing their Roots of Success curriculum and OSHA-10 and CPR certifications.

We're so proud of the eleven clients who graduated the program last week! We're excited to see their next steps as they embark on journeys to sustainable, rewarding careers.

United Way Agency Campaign

Team EC celebrated our 2024 United Way of Greater St. Louis agency campaign with a great kickoff party in October! Staff enjoyed wonderful food prepared by Benton Park Cafe (via its owner and EC board member Elicia) and had a chance to win gift cards and St. Louis Blues hockey tickets once they made a financial pledge. We have set a fundraising goal of $15,000.00 this year and have already raised over $9,000.00 towards what would be a new agency record!

Promotions at EC

Two of our team members were recently promoted: Nora Davis is now our Chief Financial Officer, and Christina Brewington is our new Director of Programs!

Nora began her career at Employment Connection in 2002 as a student intern. Involved with social justice causes during her time at SLU, she loved the idea of working at a place that helps marginalized members of the community find employment. Working in the front office and doing client mock interviews, she got to see firsthand that there are many people who want to work but need a little help getting ready for it. Over the next 22 years she continued in the organization in various capacities: Accountant, Accounting Manager, Director of Finance, and now CFO. Nora is proud to be part of an organization that helps people in the St. Louis region help themselves. In her spare time she enjoys triathlons, naps, and living in the Grove with her dog Ella and cats Sterling, Sasha, and Loretta.

Christina began her career at Employment Connection in 2013 as a practicum student working with the LCSW offering the Back to Health, Back to Work program in the World of Work classes. Christina loved that the EC team offered services and support to everyone regardless of their background and experiences. She knew this is where she wanted to be so she applied to work at EC after graduation. She has filled the roles of Housing Specialist, Behavioral Health Counselor, Co-Manager of Client & Housing Services, and now Director of Programs. In her spare time she enjoys watching movies, trying new restaurants and spending time with her family and fur babies.

United Way, Building Union Diversity, and MO Women In Trades Volunteer Day

The United Way of Greater St. Louis recently coordinated a volunteer service day where clients and staff from the Building Union Diversity- BUD program and the Missouri Women in Trades organization visited our agency to make some capital improvements! Thank you so much United Way, and we love our partners in the trade industry!

Thinksgiving

Team EC members Sal and Christina met with staff from UNCOMN to discuss our upcoming Thinksgiving partnership. Thinksgiving is an annual event organized by Filament to pair St. Louis nonprofits with forward-thinking area businesses for a day of creative problem-solving focused on the future. Thanks to both UNCOMN and Filament for allowing us to participate this year!

Happy Halloween!

Team EC celebrated Halloween at the office as well as across St. Louis! We also visited events in LaSalle Park, Dutchtown, the Community Center at Clinton-Peabody, and Roosevelt High School!

Blattel Holiday Toy Drive

We're delighted to once again be the beneficiaries of Blattel and Associates' annual Holiday Toy Drive! Blattel and several other businesses collect toys that are distributed to our clients' families every holiday season for several years running. See the flyer above for drop-off locations if you would like to contribute new or gently used toys to help spread joy this season!

Out and About

Our WIOA Team attended the YWCA's Resource Fair to spread the word about employment and educational opportunities for young people!

Sabrina won an agency raffle to attend a recent St. Louis Blues game on United Way Night!

Dutchtown Opportunity Coalition for Youth Manager Carlette spent time with our young neighbors at Thomas Dunn Learning Center with former DOCY team member and current TDLC Operations Manager Caitlyn!

There's much more going on at Employment Connection! Make sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn to stay up to date with all of our programs and events in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Clair County.
