Here's just some of what Employment Connection has been up since our last newsletter.

U.S. Bank Grant for Solar Program

We are so appreciative of U.S. Bank and U.S. Bank Foundation's $50,000 grant to support our Solar Workforce Development Program!

This funding will allow us to continue to provide training and certifications to help clients obtain employment in the green jobs workforce and electrical trades as we seek to build equity in these up-and-coming fields.

We thank U.S. Bank as well as our other partners in our Solar Workforce Development Program, including St. Louis Community College, The Midwest Renewable Energy Association, and StraightUp Solar.

St. Louis Bar Association Grant for World of Work

Thank you to the Saint Louis Bar Foundation for their support of our World of Work job readiness program! Since our founding in 1977, the The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis has been an incredible partner in pursuing our mission of assisting individuals with limited opportunities to achieve self-sufficiency.

GAF Roofing Training

We're proud to announce that a cohort of 30 participants completed our World of Work work readiness program in conjunction with GAF - Roofing Academy at the end of September! The graduates now have a collection of skills to help them acquire quality employment in the roofing installation workforce.

Thanks to former Employment Connection team member Roderick Colvin for making this collaboration possible in addition to Karla Humphrey who manages our Career Services programming!

DOCY Update

Caitlyn, the new manager of our DOCY (Dutchtown Opportunity Coalition for Youth) program, has been very busy in her new role! She has now moved into her new office at the Gene Slay’s Girls and Boys Club (Dutchtown location), attended several community events, and has met with several elected officials, including 13th Ward Alderwoman Anne Schweitzer. She is also excited to be working with her new teammates at our Cure Violence office in Dutchtown. Stay tuned for joint events that will be scheduled by both DOCY and our Cure Violence team very soon!

Housing Update

We are so proud of our housing team as they continue to provide critical eviction prevention and rapid rehousing services for our unhoused clients. The team recently hosted a special re-orientation workshop under the leadership of Manager Andrea Lewis that informed our clients of new guidelines and criteria to participate in these critical programs.

United Way Campaign Kickoff and Fall Festival

We kicked off our annual United Way Employee Giving Campaign this month! Our agency has already raised over 80% of our highest-ever agency goal of $10,000.00!

United Way of Greater St. Louis is one of Employment Connection’s primary funding sources. Our team is proud to return the favor by contributing to United Way and the 160+ local non-profit organizations that help to provide a safety net for our region’s most vulnerable populations.

Tower Grove Pride

We had a blast at Tower Grove Pride in September! Thank you to all who came out to celebrate and promote equality and justice for everyone! Special thanks to Tower Grove Pride founder Michael Powers for inviting us to participate with a resource booth at the event and for supporting the overall work of our agency!
