Here's just some of what Employment Connection has been up to since our last newsletter.
In Memory of Lori Schroeder: Our Annual Winter Clothing Drive
Every year, Employment Connection collects new socks, gloves, coats, hats, and scarves to keep our clients warm as winter approaches.
This year, our annual Winter Clothing Drive is dedicated to the memory of the late Lori Schroeder, a longtime Career Specialist at Employment Connection who recently passed. Lori committed her long career to serving individuals and families in need.
If you would like to donate new winter clothing or make a financial contribution in Lori’s honor, please contact us at (314) 333-5627 or visit employmentstl.org/donate.
Lori’s family kicked off the giving season by delivering a substantial collection of household supplies and clothing for our clients, for which we are most appreciative.
Record-Breaking United Way Employee Giving Campaign
Thank you! To Team EC for a wildly successful Employee Giving Campaign! With 100% staff participation, we exceeded our $10,000 fundraising goal by over $2,000! We’re all proud to give back to United Way of Greater St. Louis, an invaluable partner in pursuing our mission to help people with limited opportunities on the path to self-sufficiency.
Happy Halloween with Team EC
We celebrated Halloween in October with events around the office and around the city! Cure Violence teams in Wells-Goodfellow/Hamilton Heights and Dutchtown hosted candy giveaways in their respective neighborhoods. The Dutchtown Opportunity Coalition for Youth (DOCY) was at St. Anthony of Padua’s Trunk-or-Treat on the South Side. And we partnered with St. Louis Housing Authority for Halloween events in LaSalle Park and Peabody-Darst-Webbe, the home of our new Violence Prevention Program.
Clinton-Peabody Fall Festival
This Saturday, November 12th, we’re partnering with St. Louis Housing Authority and Preservation of Affordable Housing for the first Clinton-Peabody Fall Festival! The event will feature free food, live music, raffles and giveaways, and over a dozen community partners on hand to share the resources they have to offer residents of the Clinton-Peabody community. Join us at the Al Chappelle Community Center from 11am to 1pm.
Save the Date: Giving Tuesday
November 29th is Giving Tuesday! Whether you want to donate money, time, supplies, or skills, Employment Connection can always use your support. Our Giving Tuesday fundraising activity this year will benefit the Isis Mahr Memorial Fund, our Winter Clothing Drive, and our Holiday Toy Drive to support our low-income and unhoused clients.
This Giving Tuesday, please consider us in your giving plans. Make a financial contribution here or learn about other ways to donate at employmentstl.org/donate.
Blattel & Associates Holiday Toy Drive
Once again, our friends at Blattel & Associates Financial Planners have organized a Toy Drive in support of our clients’ families! They’re collecting donations of new and gently used toys at six locations across the St. Charles and West County areas through December 2nd. We are ever thankful for their yearly contributions that bring joy to our clients’ children.
Filament Donates Furniture for EC Classrooms
Thank you to Filament LLC and CEO Matt Homann for the generous donation of 28 tables worth over $11,000! We’ll be upgrading the tired equipment in our HiSET training room and classrooms with the snazzy new furniture courtesy of Filament.
Filament has an ongoing partnership with Employment Connection, working with our leadership team on critical alignment activities while we launched several new initiatives in the past year. We’re grateful for their ongoing support!
Upcoming Cure Violence Events
Our Cure Violence Teams in Dutchtown and Wells-Goodfellow/Hamilton Heights are out and about in the community! Up north, the team is providing PPE supplies and clothing. And down south, they’re sharing pet supplies and participating in other community events. Follow us on Facebook to see what the teams are up to in your neck of the woods.
There's much more going on at Employment Connection! Make sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn to stay up to date with all of our programs and events in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Clair County.
