World of Work Update

Through June of 2024, 442 graduates have completed our World of Work job readiness training program—an astounding 52% increase over our 2023 year-to-date numbers! We're delighted to serve so many new clients, and we're very proud of the amazing work our staff is doing to prepare our clients for rewarding work and a path to self-sufficiency.

Housing Update

Our Housing Team (which includes Tyrone, left, and Brianna, right) has been extremely busy this year! We have provided our clients with 313 units of rapid rehousing and/or eviction prevention support as of May 31, 2024. Many of our clients continue to suffer from housing insecurity, and this is a major barrier to self-sufficiency for them. Special thanks to our funders, including the Missouri Housing Development Commission, the Affordable Housing Commission of the City of St. Louis, VOCA, and the St. Louis County Department of Human Services for their support.

DOCY Update

Get to know DOCY—the Dutchtown Opportunity Coalition for Youth! DOCY serves youth ages 10–17 in Dutchtown, Gravois Park, and Mount Pleasant by providing safe, fun, and educational activities and opportunities in the neighborhood.

Right now, DOCY clients are participating in our eight-week Beats With Impact music production course at Thomas Dunn Learning Center! Young people get hands-on experience and training creating digital music.

United Way Volunteer Day

Over a dozen volunteers reported to EC last Saturday to organize our clothing closet, client market, and office supply storage space! The volunteers were part of Unite With Us Day, mobilizing hundreds of volunteers from United Way of Greater St. Louis across the metro area. We are truly thankful for United Way's ongoing support under the leadership of their President and CEO, Michelle Tucker!

Strategic Doing Training from United Way

Strategic Doing is an interactive exercise that enables people to form action-oriented collaborations quickly, move them toward measurable outcomes, and make adjustments along the way. It has been used by nonprofits, organizations and businesses to design strategies based on the networks and assets of the participants.

EC managers Christina and Lisa attended a Strategic Doing training session courtesy of United Way of Greater St. Louis. The session was facilitated by noted trainer Dwayne T. James of MU Extension.

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Volunteer Day

Volunteers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints visited EC Headquarters in June. In addition to the helping hands, LDS has generously donated truckloads of food, household supplies, and other items to help keep our Client Market stocked. We thank them for their ongoing support!

EC Out and About

Jay and Tamara attended a recent resource fair in East St. Louis along with our partners at Urban Strategies!

Several members of EC’s staff and their family/friends enjoyed the Illinois 300 NASCAR thanks to the generosity of World Wide Technology and the United Way of Greater St. Louis!

Summer Resource Fair

Over 100 attendees came to our Summer Employment & Resource Fair at EC's Market Street headquarters! In addition to on-the-spot interviews and hiring with 15 employers, we also provided access to food, work attire, and household items from our Client Market and Clothing Closet. Thanks to Career Services Manager Karla, her team, and other EC staff for organizing this wonderful event!

Sunny Day at EC Party

The EC Cheer Team celebrated summer with lunch and dessert, games, and attendance prizes! Thank you to our partners at AllTru Credit Union and Great Southern Bank for sponsoring an afternoon of fun for our staff.
