YOUTH SPECIALIST

Dutchtown Opportunity Coalition for Youth

The Dutchtown Opportunity Coalition for Youth (DOCY) engages with youth to reduce their likelihood of being both victims and perpetrators of crime by connecting them to opportunities that pave a way towards graduation and/or employment. We will also engage intentionally with household members to identify needs and make referrals to supportive services for the participants. DOCY is seeking a team member to lead case management for youth ages 10-17  from the Dutchtown, Gravois Park, and Mount Pleasant neighborhoods. 

 

Essential Duties
  • Case Management of Youth 10-17 

  • Assistance in planning and executing outreach events 

  • Maintains positive relationships and open communication with community providers and coalition partners

  • Assist in compiling client data and metrics for reporting purposes 

  • Compile monthly progress reports on each participant 

  • Maintain ongoing contact with participants until identified goals are met 

  • Make appropriate referrals to services/resources 

 
Required Skills 
  • Excellent communication skills 

  • Experience with high-level data management  

  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office programs 

  • Experience and/or training in crisis intervention  

  • Experience working with high-risk youth 

  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with community providers in the service area 

  • Ability to quickly develop and sustain trusting relationships 

 
Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology with two years of related experience; A Master's Degree  in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited program or in a closely related human service field is preferred  

  • Additional certifications, licenses, advanced training, and experience preferred 

  • Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills (written and verbal) 

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours as needed 

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Must possess and maintain proof of auto insurance 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age 

  • No pending criminal cases or prior convictions for domestic violence (within 10 years) or prior convictions for sexual assault or child abuse. Must be able to obtain clearance from the Missouri Family Registry.

Requires the ability to perform mid-level data analysis including the ability to audit, deduce, assess, conclude, and appraise. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such established criteria to define consequences and develop alternatives. 

 

Human Interaction

Requires the ability to provide first-line supervision. Ability to persuade, convince, and train subordinates. Ability to advise and provide interpretation regarding the application of policies, procedures, and standards to specific situations. 

 

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Use 

Requires the ability to operate, maneuver, and/or provide simple but continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery, and tools such as motor vehicles, computer terminals, typewriters, telephones, fax machines, calculator/adding machines, computer printers, and photocopiers, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. Ability to type data/information accurately into a computerized interactive terminal. 

 

Verbal Aptitude

Requires the ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information such as contracts, work site agreements, reimbursement requests, client surveys, timesheets, reimbursement requests, contract performance reports, training plans, program regulations, personnel policies, employee performance evaluations, computer software operating manuals, statutes, procedures, guidelines, and non-routine correspondence. 

 

Mathematical Aptitude

Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; and calculate percentages, decimals, and fractions.

Functional Reasoning

Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems such as supervision, leading, planning, and coordinating. Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution. 

 

Situational Reasoning

Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness, and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, and/or subjective criteria, as opposed to criteria that are measurable or verifiable.

 

Environmental Factors

Work is normally performed in an office environment under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to irate individuals poses a very limited risk of injury. 
 

Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing five to twenty pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstation. 

 

Sensory Requirements

Requires the ability to distinguish objects clearly at close range. Requires the ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.

 

Travel

Local. Use of personal automobile and liability insurance required.

 

Hours per Week 

Minimum forty (40) hours a week, evenings and weekends as needed 

 

Salary Range 

$41,000-$50,000 commensurate with experience  

 

Work Environment 

Typical office environment in the Dutchtown neighborhood
